Christopher, Your Father is very angry and upset at everything that has gone on with Mrs Shears, Mr Shear and your Mother. Mrs Shears helped your dad through the tough times after Mother had left. “She was around here most days, helping out with the cooking and the cleaning.” She has been involved in your life a lot. She was around so much, your Father thought that Mrs Shears loved him and wanted to move in. Your Father didn’t want this for you or for him. The only way he could think to stop her was to make her very upset and angry with him that she wouldn’t like him and therefore not want to move in with him and you.
That’s why he decided to kill Mr Shear’s dog, Wellington. There is no need to be frightened of Father. He isn’t going to kill you or Toby. You and your Father have had your fair share of arguments but he wants the best for you. He’s never going to kill you or Toby. There is no need to worry.
He is also very angry with Mr Shears, Rodger. Mr Shears left Mrs Shears and went to live with Mother in London; Just like it said in those letters that Mother sent you. Your Father had hidden those letters from you because he doesn’t think that you’ll understand them; just like you don’t understand jokes or certain facial expressions.
Then your father thought it would be a good idea to get rid of Mother out of your life. He thought this would be a good idea because he was angry at her. When Mother left you and your Father, your Father thought that she didn’t want anything to do with you. So, to get back at Mother he pretended that she was dead. This obviously didn’t work and you have a very good picture memory so you could remember most things about your Mother. So this was never going to work.
There are a few reasons for why you shouldn’t trust your Father and for why you should. For example he doesn’t always tell you the truth which is important in a family relation. You and your Father shouldn’t keep anything from each other. He also goes to drastic measures to cover things up. He should tell you these things. If you don’t understand anything then you should either ask him of Siobhan.
However there are more reasons for why you should trust him. For example he doesn’t want to confuse you by introducing any other people into your life such as Mrs Shears. He is also taking into consideration that you don’t always understand things. That’s why he hid the letter for a later date.
In conclusion I think that you should trust your Father. It takes a while to get over losing your wife and being a single parent. He has to take on reasonability’s that he didn’t have to before.
