Scientific Method
A series of steps followed to solve a problem.
Hypothesis
An idea or explanation based on prior research or observations that can be tested.
Prediction
A statement of cause and effect usually in If-Then format.
Steps of Scientific Method
1. Recognize a problem/Ask a question
2. Research/Make observations
3. Form a hypothesis
4. Test hypothesis
5. Analyze data
6. Draw conclusions

Steps of Scientific Method explained
Scientiic methods often include the same steps, but the steps may not be used in the same order everytime.
Controlled Experiment
Test only one factor at a time and has a control group and 1 or more experimental groups.
Variable
Any factor in an experiment that can be changed.
Inference
An explanation of you observation.
Observation
The use of you senses to gather information.
Qualitative observation
Observations that use your senses. They describe the quality of an object or situation.
Quantitative Observation
Observations expressed in numbers. They are needed to make an experiment more reliable.
Independent variable
The variable being changed. It is graphed on the "x" axis.
Dependent variable
The variable being observed or measured. It is graphed on the "y" axis.
Control
A sample group that is treated like other experimental groups, but the independent variable isn't applied.
Bias
A way of thinking that tells only one side of the story, sometimes gives inaccurate informtation or false impression.
