Cell Cycle

The Regular Sequence of growth and division that cells undergo

Interphase

First Part of Cell Cycle, Made up of Gap 1 Gap 2 and synthesis, DNA is replicated in synthesis

Mitosis

The stage during which the nucleus divides into two new nuclei, made up of 4 parts

Prophase

Chromatin condenses to form chromosomes, centrioles move to opposite ends of the cell, spindle fibers form abridge between two centrioles, nuclear envelope breaks down

Metaphase

chromosomes line up, spindle fibers attatch to the centromeres

Anaphase

centromeres split, chromatids become new chromosomes, new chromosomes move to opposite ends of cell with equal amount on each side, cell starts to stretch out

Telophase

chromosomes start to stretch out and lose rod like appearance, new nuclear envelopes form to surround new chromosomes

Cytokinesis

cytoplasm is divided and cell membrane pinches into the middle to split cell into two new daughter cells, in plants, a cell plate is formed that becomes cell membrane and then cell wall grows

Chromosomes

A doubled rod of condensed chromatin

Chromatid

Two individual parts of a chromosome

Cromatin

Uncondensed chromosome

Centriole

cylindrical organele, carries spindle fibers and moves to poles of cell

Centromere

Holds two sister chromatids together to form chromosome

Spindle Fiber

attach to centrioles and centromeres

Differentiation

The process by which cells change their structure and become capable of carrying out specialized functions

During development

cells become fixed or set in how they will differentiate

Differentiation occurs when

certain sections in the DNA are turned off. the active DNA guides how the cell develops

Stem Cells

Human cells that can differentiate throughout life, respond to certain needs of the body by becoming specialized when needed.

One of the stem cell functions

releasing a steady supply of blood cells

what to human cells lose the ability to do once they differentiate

the ability to become other types of cells

(Ex:Lizard grows a new tail)

Adenine goes with

Thymine

Guanine goes with

Cytosine

nitrogen bases make the _______ ladder
