Skeleton
is your framework and is made up of all the bones in your body. It determines the shape of your body.
Vertebrae
26 small bones that make up your backbone.
Joint
is a place in the body where two bones come together. Joints allow bones to move in different ways. There are two kinds of joints—immovable joints and movable joints.
Movable joints
different kinds of joints that allow your body to move in a variety of ways.
Ligament
strong connective tissues that hold together the bones in movable joints.
Cartilage
connective tissue, which is more flexible than bone. It covers the ends of the bones and keeps them from rubbing against each other.
Compact bone
is a layer beneath the bone’s outer membrane, which is hard and dense, but not solid.
Spongy bone
a layer just inside the compact bone that has many spaces within it.
Marrow
a soft, connective tissue contained in the spaces in many bones. There are two types, red and yellow.
Osteoporosis
a condition in which the body’s bones become weak and break easily.
