Indigestion

Food is taken into the mouth, chewed and mixed with saliva, travels down to stomach by peristalsis (muscle contractions) down the oesophagus

Digestion

Ingested food is broken down (stomach/duodenum) into small molecules so that it can be absorbed into the bloodstream

Absorbtion

Digested food is absorbed into the bloodstream (small intestine/ileum) to be used in body cells

Egestion

Water is reabsorbed into the body (large intestine/colon) and solid waste is excreted (anus)
