What gasses make up earth's atmosphere?
Nitrogen and Oxygen.
In which layer of the atmosphere does all the weather occur?
In the Troposphere
What does 40% RELATIVE humidity mean?
It means there is 40% water vapor than it can actually have.
How and where does sleet and hail form?
Sleet: Forms when rain falls through a layer of air thats large enough to freeze the rain.

HAIL: Forms during summer months in cumulonimbus clouds when wind tosses the ice crystals up and down. As they move water droplets attach then freeze. This happens until the cloud is too full.
What is the Ozone layer?
The ozone layer is in the Stratosphere. It protects us from the sun's rays.
What weather forms quickly from thunderstorms?
A tornado
Characteristics of each cloud:
Cirrus: Thin and look feathery. They form high up in the atmosphere where temps are BELOW 0 degrees C. Not usually have precipitation.

Cirrocumulus: Form high in atmosphere. made of ice crystals. No usual precipitation.

Cumulonimbus: REACH high into atompshere. Their also called thunderclouds because they reslut in a short heavy rainfall or thunderstorm.

Cumulus: Form within 2 kilometers of earth's Surface. Puffy. They stack up on each other. Usually form in late in the day when air warmed by land rises.

Stratus: form between 2 and 6 kilometers above earth's surface. The are flat, white and will produce mist or steady drizzle.
What do Meteorologists use to predict local severe weather?
Thermometer, Barometers, Anemometer, Rain Gauges, Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS), Weather balloon and Doppler Radar.
How does the area an air mass forms effect it?
If the place is warm, air mass is warm. If the place has humidity air mass has humidity.... etc.
Why are satellites useful?
They help to see all over the world and high into the atmosphere.
How can Volcanic activity effect climate?
When it erupts it releases large amounts of ash and smoke into atmosphere thus blocking sunlight causing Earth to cool.
Why does cool air have greater air pressure than warm air?
Warm air particals are all spread out while the cool air is packed together.
Why do people living near water experience greater air pressure and more temps?
Because when water moves from one place to another bringing warm water with it.
Describe the pattern of airflow.
the different types of fronts
EX: warm front or cold front
What happens when a warm mass runs into a cooler mass?
The warm air rises above the warm. Clouds form, and rain.
Decsribe each of the 3 severe weather. Decribe 2 ways to be safe.
Thunderstorm: small intense storm that produces strong winds, heavy rain and thunder. About 1,800 occur every second. To be safe you stay under a small tree if your in the woods and find shelter indoors away from windows.

Tornados: a violent funnel shaped column of air that extends from a thunderstorm to the ground. Winds can reach up to 512 Km. an hour. To be safe you should find shelter underground or if outside lay in ditch covering face.

Hurricane: a large storm that forms over warm ocean waters. Hurricane winds blow at least119 km per hour. To be safe Stay away from the phone, and evacuate if told so.
