 Motion The state in which one object's distance from another is changing. It has to do with the amount of distance. Acceleration The rate at which velocity changes. Has to do with velocity. International system of units (SI) A system of measurement based on multiples of ten and on established measures of mass, length, and time; used by scientists to measure the properties of matter. Linear A relationship whose graph is a line with a constant slope. Has to do with a graph. Meter The basic SI unit of length. Nonlinear A relationship whose graph is a curved line. Has to do with a graph. Plate One of the major pieces that that make up Earth's upper layer. Reference point A place or object used for comparison to determine if an object is in motion. Slope The steepness, or slant, of a line on a graph. Speed The distance an object travels in one unit of time. Velocity Speed in a given direction. Motion The state in which one object's distance from another is changing.
