Mandatory minimums and limits
UIM - not required, can get up to liability maximum
UM - required minimum $25,000. An out of state driver with less than $25k UM will be deemed uninsured
*At-fault drivers are not entitled to recover, even from their own policies

Measuring vehicle
Vehicle involved in the accident. An individual "has" a vehicle in the accident when the individual owns a vehicle in the accident. But ownership is not required to stack, only must be a Class I.
Stacking limits
UM coverage for uninvolved vehicles may not be stacked in an amount greater than $25,000. UM coverage over that amount is considered excess and may not be stacked.

Any more money needed will come from excess coverage or UIM coverage
UIM may not....
owner of vehicle involved in accident with NO UIM may NOT reach back to at home vehicles with UIM to obtain coverage
Class IIs
Permissive users and guests.

May get their own UM coverage and reach back to at-home UM with no limits.
No insured vehicle
If none of the insured's vehicles is involved in the accident, coverage is available only to the extent of coverage on any one of the vehicles with excess or UIM coverage.

Don't own the car in the accident? --> get UIM and excess coverage on the vehicles involved.
Class I insured with UIM coverage
Class I insured with UIM coverage on the car involved in the accident in excess of the basic statutory limits may stack UIM coverage from other policies in an amount EQUAL to coverage on the measuring car.
