Comminution
Act of reducing a substance to small, fine particles.
Disperse
To scatter or incorporate the particles of one substance into another.
Dissolution
The act of dissolving a substance into a liquid.
Elixir
A sweetened hydroalcoholic solution which may contain an active ingredient or serve as a vehicle for other medications.
Emulsion
A mixture of two liquids that are no soluble (immiscible) in each other. When shaken, one phase will form globules in the other.
Excipients
Inert substances added to another substance in order to attain suitable consistency, shape or form (tablets-fillers and binders)
Geometric dilution
Used to combine on drug with another in a mortar and pestle. Place the smaller amount, usually the active ingredient into mortar. Then add approximately the same amount of the next ingredient, usually the base. Mix well. continue in the manner, adding each time an amount equal to the amount in the mortar.
