It is important because you need to establish a secure relationship with you students so they get a sense of belonging. Things you can do are: remembering the children's names, learn one thing about them and show an interest and actively listen to what they have to say.
What is the importance of engaging students?
Behavior management, communication, relationships and to create a positive learning environment. By engaging student's you are making sure that they are paying attention to what is being taught but they are also actively learning and highly motivated through the use of engagement.
