Phonics
The ability to make the correct association between the sounds and symbols of a language. Using he Greek roots for symbol and sound, these are often called graphophonemic relationships. Phonics is a set of many skills, such as the knowledge that the letter c makes both the /k/ sound and the /s/ sound
Morphology
The study of word formation. Children use morphological clues to identify words when they rely on root words, prefixes, and suffixes. Using those morphological clues is also called structural analysis. All lessons on morphology should involve teaching the meaning of root words, prefixes and suffixes.
