Current sexual dysfunction theory flaws
Androgcentric (male centered) and defined as sex is penetrative and over when male finishes. Wide range of sexual behaviors

Female sexual dysfunction is defined as inability to adjust to male sexuality

Flawed b/c 70% women cannot orgasm in normal intercourse

Also confines sex and desires to a relationship context and outflowing from that but there are many reasons to have sex

Most research treats sexual disorders as intercourse disorders

Orgasm - release of sexual tension

Resolution - everything returns to normal prearoused state. No female disorders in this stage

Men also have a refractory stage that women do not

Desire Disorder - lack of sexual desire or aversion to behavior

Sexual Pain Disorders - painful intercourse, vaginismus

Sexual Arousal Disorders - Vasocongestion disorder, difficulty becoming lubricated

Orgasmic Disorders - difficulty orgasming

10% have a disorder at any given time, 66% at some point in life

Majority of female disorders (more than men overall) related to lack of orgasm or painful intercourse

Males usually climaxing to early or anxiety

If needs not met, then less inclined to sexual behavior. Can include touching, cuddling, etc. MOST women do not orgasm through intercourse (vaginal orgasm).

In fact lack of female orgasm linked to marital dysatisfaction. Called hysteria and treatment was masturbation and why vibrator was invented

Can be impaired due to lack of estrogen, diseases, or problem in relationship. Insufficient lubrication

Treatment - lubrication, more foreplay, regression of level of touching to regain excitement

Treatment - find body part really important to orgasm (clitoris or other), positions for citoral stimulation. Other body parts, toys, etc.
