Buddhist must follow the Eightfold path in order to reach a place of enlightenment. It is not considered moral to have a job that exploits animals

Under no circumstances should animals be put to death. Animals are sentient beings meaning they have senses and feel pain. Buddhist believe that all life is equal and therefore has a right to be protected

Jesus said this when he was being crucified on the cross. This shows that we should forgive others even when they don't understand the hurt that they have caused

Jesus tells a story of how a foreigner helps his enemy who has been attack

This shows that you must treat people in need of all races with love: as they are your neighbour

Equally both men and women reflect the image of God. As they are both made in his image

The Sanctity of Life




All life is sacred and special to God

All life is special and precious because life is a gift from God. Humans are so special as they are made in the image of God

"All humans are created in the image of God" (Genesis)

This shows how special and scared human life is that God has chosen for us to be made in his image. All life should be protected

"Thou shall not kill" (6th Commandment, Old Testament)

Abortion is wrong because it breaks the 6th commandment and the Sanctity of Life

"Before I formed your in the womb I knew and approved of you, and before you we born I separated and set you apart" (Jeremiah 1:5)

God knew you before pre-conception. This shows that God has a plan and destiny for every human being

"For you did form my inward parts; You did knit me together in my mother's womb" (Psalm 139)

Every human has valus as God has uniquely made each one of us. Some Christians would argue that life begins at conception as the scripture says you formed me in my mother's womb

Roman Catholic is completely against abortion

Roman Catholic see abortion as a grave sin as abortion breaks the 6th commandment and the Sanctity of Life. Roman Catholics are pro-life and believe under no circumstances should abortion take place: life must be protected.

Protestants accept it is a necessary evil that must be a last resort

In some circumstances, e.g. where a woman has been raped abortion may be the better option.




An abortion maybe the lesser of two evils if the baby will be born with a severe disability and live in a poor quality of life that is full of pain and suffering

God blessed them and said "Go forth and increase in number" (Genesis)

God instructed Adam and Eve to make babies. Couples of have babies to fulfil the religious duty to have children

In the Garden of Eden, Adam came into existence at first breath. Some people would argue this when life first begins: first breath

After the Israelites were free from slavery in Egypt, Moses told Joshua to attack the Amalekites to defend their faith. This was a Holy War fought in the name of God

The Bible teaches that the Lord is a warrior. This shows that in circumstances war may be acceptable. For example, if to bring about justice and defend faith (Holy War)

The Old Testament teaches the law of retaliation and retribution (revenge). If someone or country does something wrong, that person or country should be punished by having the same done to them

Jesus attacked the money-changers in the temple

This is the only occasion in the Bible whew Jesus does not have a pacifist stance. Jesus enter the temple courts and rove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. He was outraged because the Temple is scared and holy place. The money changers were disrespecting God's home by selling and Gambling


"Those who live by the sword die by the sword" (Jesus)

This means if you use violence or other harsh means, against people, you can expect to have those same means used against you

"Thou shall not kill" (6th Commandment, Old Testament)

This commandment tells you its is a sin to kill. In war lives are lost through killing this breaks the sanctity of life as all life is precious and God given. Therefore only God has the right to decide when someones life should end

"If someone slaps you on one check, turn to them the other cheek" (Jesus)

This teaching of Jesus means not to respond to insult by retaliation or retribution. But instead responding to hatred with love

"So God created man in his own image" (Genesis 1:27)

Christians believe the human race is all part of the body and image of Christ. A result of war is innocent lives being lost. Each time a life is take away this takes from and damages the image of Christ

In Isaiah's prophesy of the coming of the Messiah he says "His name will be called Prince of Peace"

Christians believe that Jesus was indeed the Messiah and was given the title of 'Prince of Peace', indication of of his many roles: the one who is the leader of peace and offers it to others.

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they are God's children" (New Testament)

Christians should follow the examples and teaching of Jesus. Jesus was a pacifist and taught that if you live a life of peace and in love you will be blessed and welcomed in God's kingdom

"An eye for an eye would make the whole world blind" (Gandhi, Hindu)

Gandhi is saying that if someone is violent towards you, you shouldn't respond with violence, because it won't achieve anything and just end up hurting you more.
