It was important because it marked the start of previously unknown freedom to the israelites and it was at that time when the decalogue was handed down from God.

The beatitudes are the attitudes of Jesus, they identify specific ways of behaving that lead people to become better, their purpose is to allow people to do God's will.

The corporal work's of mercy are things that Christians can do to show God's mercy, they were decided by the Church and mostly consist of charitable events like feeding the poor, sheltering the homeless and burying the dead.
