State what the Christian creation story is.

The story in the book of genesis in the Bible says that God created the world in six days, with the seventh day being a rest day.

How could it be argued that evolution is referenced in the Bible?

God created life after he created Earth. Humans were created after animals. There is a theory that humans evolved from animals - apes - which means that it can fit with the theory of evolution.

State two things that Christians believe about creation.

1) God created the universe and everything in it.

2) Everything was created out of nothing.

What are the conflicts within Christianity around the creation story?

Most Christians split into two groups: fundamentalists and liberal Christians. Fundamentalists take the word of the Bible literally, meaning that they believe the world was created in six actual days by God. Liberal Christians, on the other hand, may believe the story is a metaphor - the six days are, in fact, six periods of time. This thinking is more flexible and liberal Christians are generally more accepting of science.

What is meant by the 'origins of humanity'?

The way human beings came into existence/the beginning of the human race.

Name one scientific theory of how the universe began.

The 'big bang' theory

Summarise the 'big bang theory'

Scientists believe that the Big Bang was a huge explosion that occurred roughly 13.8bn years ago, where matter was flung in every direction.

What is the evidence used to prove this theory?

There are two main pieces of evidence:

1) The universe is still expanding, and at an accelerating rate. Matter is still travelling outwards, from what would be the centre of the explosion.

2) CMBR (cosmic microwave background radiation) is a low frequency radiation which is emitted from all directions in the universe and is theorised to originate from the 'big bang'.
