What is the Rehabilitation Act of 1973?
Civil rights law enacted primarily to provide equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities to participate in activities afforded to the general population.
Who qualifies for section 504?
A person that is disabled and has a history of physical or mental impairment that significantly interferes with one of lifes major activity.
What is the provision?
A qualified person with a disability in the US can't be excluded from benefits or be discriminated under any program/activity receiving federal financial assistance.
What is the difference between 504 and IDEA?
504 covers any educational program or extracurricular activity that is federally funded. Program must be available to people without disabilities.
How does IDEA and 504 work together?
IDEA require PE to made available to disabled students receiving FAPE in the LRE. 504 and IDEA work together for equal educational opportunity.
