Neck composed of 7 cervical vertibrae. Supports the skull and provides rotation.
Thoracic Region
Chest composed of 12 thoracic vertebrae, which attach to the ribs.
Lumbar Region
Loin composed of 5 lumbar vertebrae that support the small of the back.
Sacral Region
Sacrum composed of 5 sacral vertebrae that are fused to the bone.
Coccyx Region or Tailbone
Composed of 4 coccygeal vertebrae that are fused into one bone.

Right Hypochondriac
Region on the right side that is under the ribs. Contains the right side of the liver, the right kidney and a portion of the diaphragm.
Left Hypochondriac
Region on the left side that is under the ribs. Contains portions of the diaphragm, the spleen, the stomach. the left kidney, and part of the pancreas.
Right Flank or Lumbar Region
Region on the right that is near the lumbar vertebrae; the right loin area. Contains portions of the large intestine and the right kidney.
Left Flank or Lumbar Region
Region of the left loin area. Contains portions of the small and large intestines and a portion of the left kidney.
Right Inguinal or Iliac
Region on the right located near the groin. Contains portions of the small and large intestines.
Left Inguinal or Iliac
Region on the left located near the groin. Contains portions of the small and large intestines.
Epigastric
Region over the stomach. Contains the pancreas and portions of the stomach, liver, inferior vena cava, abdominal aorta, and the duodendum.
Umbilical
Region near the umbilicus (belly button, omphalo). Contains sections of the small and large intestines and a portion of the left kidney.
Hypogastric or Suprapubic
Region under the stomach. Major stuctures include a portion of the sigmoid colon, the urinary bladder, and ureters, and portions of the small intestine.
Coronal Plane
Cuts the body in half like a sandwich.
Sagittarial Plane
Cuts the body in half dividing it into left and right sides.
Transverse Plane
Cuts the body in half dividing it top and bottom.
