What were some changes caused by the Neolithic Revolution?
At the end of the Ice Age (8-10,000 years ago), mankind began to change their way of life and start civilizations. They started to make towns, religion centers, crops, and everything else tailored to civilizations.
What were two of the biggest changes to innovations in the Neolithic Age? Why are they important?
Systematic agriculture and domestication. They're important because people no longer had to rely on hunting and gathering
Describe systematic agriculture and name some examples of products grown.
Growing foods on a regular basis. 3 of the earliest foods were bean, wheat, and barley because they were easy to grow.
Describe domestication and name some of the animals that were kept.
Changing animals to meet human needs.
Earliest animal to be domesticated = timber wolf because they helped people hunt/protected them.
All dogs come from wolves.
Other animals were sheep (cloth), horses (transportation), and camels (transportation).
What are some of the benefits of systematic agriculture?
Stable food supply - a given quantity of food can be grown every year in the same location.
Need less land per person when using agriculture then hunting and gathering. (1 acre can feed 20 people instead of 20 acres with hunting and gathering.
Extra food supply = growth in population = surplus of labor = different jobs/skilled trades starting/civilization
Why did the Neolithic Age come to an end?
Between 5,000 and 4,000 BC, people in Europe and Asia learned that you could heat rocks with metal ores inside and obtain the metal from within to make tools and weapons
Describe copper
The first metal to be worked by man since the temperature at which it melts is low and there was a lot of it in the Neolithic Age.
