What is the CLARIFY reading strategy?
When I don't understand a word in the story I write it down and try to figure it out. Steps I may use include: reread the sentence, use the dictionary, ask a teacher or peer. I also may try to replace it with another word.
How do I figure out a word I don't know.
How do I use the QUESTION strategy?
I ask or write down questions before during and after reading. I can ask a peer, parent, teacher or other person reading the story. I see if my questions are answered later in the story.
How do I use the PREDICTION strategy?
I use what I already know about the story and make a guess about what I think will happen next.
How do I use the SUMMARIZE strategy?
I tell what I ready. I do not retell the whole story, but only the main event of the story.
What is a THEME of a story?
The theme of a story is moral, lesson or author's purpose of the story.
