Age-specific symptoms of congestive heart failure (important): (a) Older children: exercise intolerance (e.g., walking, running, stair climbing) and fatigue are the most common manifestations. In severe cases, patients appear with orthopnea andnocturnal dyspnea. (b) In infants: feeding difficulties (i.e., volume of each feed or the time spent on each breast) are the most common manifestations. Patients may be dyspneic or diaphoretic while sucking. They fell asleep exhausted and wake up early for the next feeding. This cycle continues 24 hours a day and this is an important differentiating point from colic and other feeding disorders
Edema noted in areas with heart failure:
Edema noted in areas with heart failure: (a) Infants: around the eyes and over the flanks. (b) Older children and teenagers: both periorbital and pedal edemas. Patients usually complain that their clothes no longer fit.
