Random Access Memory (RAM)

RAM stores parts of the operating system: programs and data that are currently being used.

About RAM

Everything in RAM is lost when the computer is turned off.

The more RAM a computer has the more programs it can run and the faster they will run.

Read Only Memory (ROM)

It's used to hold simple boot programs or in embedded systems like microwaves.

About ROM

ROM holds information even when the power is off, but once written it can never be changed. For example a CD-ROM.
