Studios that owned production, distribution and exhibition of films - Resulted in nearly total control of the industries - ended in 1948 |

Created race films - Began by writing novels and selling them door-to-door - Created the Micheaux Book & Film Company (1918) - Created 30 films over 10 years dealing with lynching, interracial marriage, etc; most were lost - Movies usually had an all-Black cast and allowed people of colour to be seated wherever they pleased |
