Bud

Parts of the stem that allow it to grow in length or develop new buds, flowers or leaves

Terminal (Apical) Bud

Bud that is at the end of a stick and allows it to grow in length.

Lateral (Axillary) Bud

Bud that grows on the sides.

Bud Scale

Scales encasing a bud.

Bud Scale Scar

A scar left behind by last year's apical bud that wraps around the entire perimeter of where it was.

Node

A heart-shaped scar where new leaves are forming or where old leaves have fallen.
