Selection ratio
The number of job openings divided by the number of job applicants.
High selection ratio
Most people who apply are being hired (this is preferable from a job applicant’s point of view)
Low selection ratio
Only a small number of people applying are being hired. This is much more challenging when you’re looking for a job.
What is Title VII of the Civil Rights Act 1964?
An Act which states that you cannot make employment decisions, can’t segregate, can’t train or not train due to: race, color, religion, sex, national origin. i.e. you can’t limit people based on these variables, personal characteristics.
Age Discrimination in Employment Act (1978) states what?
It states that if you are between 40 and 70 you cannot be told you are too old for a job. If you are 16 or 25 and you are told you are too young for a job, there’s nothing you can do about it.
Americans with Disabilities Act (1992)
Requires organizations to make reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities. ‘Qualified’ is open to interpretation.
