What is the Attribution Theory's used for? What 2 kinds are there?
Descirbes how we explain behaviours of others. These behaviours are either situational or dispositional.
What is the convariation theory?
Theory that tells us whether the behaviour is due to Dispositional or Situational causes.
Explain the fundemental attribution error?
We tend to over estimate the influence of dispositional explanations of another person's behaviour.
When does this happen?
When we know the situation factors in play.
The Qizz Game?
Three groups of subjects, Contestant, Questioner, Observer. Questioenr made hard questions which made them look smart, and when the observer voted who was mroe intellegent, it was the questioner they voted.
What is this an example of?
A dispositonal attribution of the contestants inability to answer the questions.
Name an important Attitude Behaviour, and explain why it is one.
Stockholm Syndrom. When kids are kidnapped, they do not want to leave because they have stayed with the person who kidnapped them for so long.
Cognitive Dissonance
We feel tension when two simultaneously accessible thoughts or beliefs are inconsistent.
What do we do to decrease this?
In order to reduce the dissonence, we have to change what we believe.
What is the overjustification effect?
If you over justify an action, dissonance wont occur and attitude change will fail.
