What is tourettes?
Sudden, rapid, notrhythmic stereotyped motor movements or vocalizations that persist for > 1 year; onset < 18.

Treatment- Haloperidol or other anti-DA (fluphenazine, pimozide, tetrabenazine)
What is childhood disintegrative disorder?
Regression in multiple areas of functioning after at least 2 years of apparently normal development. Loss of receptive language, social skills, bowel/bladder control, play/motor skills. Onset 3-4; boys

What is the difference between delirium and dementia?
Delirium is acute onset, waxing and waning level of consciousness, and hallucinations, abnormal EEG.
Dementia is gradual decreased level of cognition with no change in consciousness or psychotic syndromes, normal EEG.

What is MDD?
Recurrent- requires 2 or more major depressive episodes (2 or more weeks) with a symptom free interval of 2 months.

What is postpartum depression?
Characterized by depressed affect, anxiety, and poor concentration. Lasts 2 weeks to 2 months. Treat with antidepressants, psychotherapy.
What is panic disorder?
Strong genetic component; Presence of recurrent periods of intense fear and discomfort peaking in 10 minutes: Palpitations, Paresthesias, Abdominal distress, lIghtheadneadness, Chest pain, Chills, Choking, disConnectedness, Sweating, Shaking, SOB. (PANICS).Associated with persistent fear of another attack.

What toxicities cause miosis?
Opioids (morphine, heroin, methadone), Cholinergic agonists (organophosphates)
What toxicities cause mydriasis?
Cocaine, atropine, amphetamines, LSD
What occurs in PCP intoxication?
Belligerence, psychomotor agitation, vertical and horizontal nystagmus, homicidality, delirum, psychosis, tachycardia, fever
What is methadone?
A long acting ORAL opioid used for heroin detox or long-term maintenance (decreases needle use)
What is suboxone?
Naloxone + buprenorphine (partial agonist); Long acting with fewer withdrawal symptoms than methadone (naloxone only active if injected). Lower abuse potential.
