CNS

Is made up of brain and spinal cord. The neurons that make up the CNS are called Interneurons

PNS

Is made up of all nerve fibers that take information to and from the CNS. Neurons that make up the PNS are called receptors and effectors.

Receptors

Generate electrical impulses & take information to the CNS. Also called senosry neurons or afferent neurons.

Effectors

Take messages away from the CNS to organs, muscles, etc. Also called motor neurons or efferent neurons.

Somatic

Controls voluntary muscle movement.

Automonomic

Controls glands, Internal organs & Involuntary muscles.

Sympathetic

Prepares body for emergencies.

Parasympathetic

Helps the body to recover from strenous activity or arousal from sympathetic.

Action Potential, Hyperpolarized & Depolarized

Electric activity in neurons is strenghtened.

Resting Potential

The cell is alive & active, but not transmitting.

Neurotransmitters

Chemical released to other neurons to arouse them.

Reuptake

Neurons reabsorbing/ recycle neurotransmitters.

Enzyme Breakdown

Breaks down chemicals into other substances.

Receptor Sites

Where neurons recieve neurotransmitters.

Nerotrasmitters

1.) Serontonin

2.) Dopamine

3.) Endophrine

4.) Norepinephrine

5.) Acetycholine

6.) GABA
