List the 4 components a neuron has.
Axon
Soma
Dendrites
Synapse
Sends messages to the other neurons
Axon
Receives messages and delivers to soma
Dendrites
Cell Body
Soma
The space between the axon and the dendrites
Synapse
List the 4 different types of neurons
Sensory
Motor
Interneurons
What type of neuron: Messages from the body to the Central Nervous System. There's 5000 of these for each Motor Neuron
Sensory Neuron
Action messages from Central Nervous System to muscles and glands.
Motor Neurons. 5000 sensory for every motor.
How motor and sensory neurons communicate
Interneurons
Chemicals released from the pre-synaptic neuron (on the axon) to the post-synaptic neuron (on the dendrite)
Neurontransmitters
The neurotransmitter for learning and memory. Reduction results in memory loss (Alzheimers). Can give someone a drug so that their body doesn't make ______ so that they won't remember things
Acetylcholine
The Neurotransmitter in charge of movement, attention, and memory. People with Parkinson's don't have enough. Schizophrenics have too much. Clozaphine helps.
Dopamine
Neurotransmitter that deals with arousal, sleep, mood, appetite, and sensitivity to pain. High levels deal with aggression and inability to sleep. Moderate levels deals with relaxation. Low levels deal with depression. SSRI: Selective _____ pre-uptake inhibitor. The more _____ you have, the more you dream.
Seratonin.
Deals with 2 hemispheres with each hemisphere having the same function but specializing in different areas.
Laterialization of Function
Left brain controls right side and vise versa.
Contra-Lateriality
