What is Pseudo-obstruction?
Intestinal motility disorder without a mechanical cause. Due to a disorder affecting smooth muscle or nerves of intestine. 2 types
Primary - idiopathic
Secondary - due to another ocndition e.g. congenital aganglionosis, drugs, scleroderma, amyloidosis
Diagnose
Difficult, often a diagnosis of exclusion.
X-rays show dil bowel without mechanical obstruction.

Essentially an obstruction without mechanical cause. May diagnose after laparotomy to real this out.
Rx
Metocloperamide (prokinetic + antiemetic)

Domperidone (antiemetic)
