able to dissolve. (Ex: Water is soluble, it is able to dissolve)
Solubility
a measure of how much of a substance dissolves in a given amount of another substance. (Ex: The measurement of how much salt dissolved in 1 cup of water)
Density
a measure of the mass of a substance per unit volume, d=m/v
Buoyancy
the ability of a fluid to exert an upward force on an object that is immersed in the fluid, or the ability to float in water
Specific Heat
the amount of energy needed to raise the temperature of 1g of a substance by 1˚C
Capillary Action
the force of attraction among molecules and with surrounding materials
Polar Molecule (polarity)
a molecule that has electrically charged areas, positive and negative
Cohesion
the tendency of water molecules to form weak bonds and stick together
Surface Tension
the tightness across the surface of the water caused by the polar molecules pulling on one another
Adhesion
the tendency of water to stick to other substances
