Mass
The amount of matter in a substance or object.
Weight
A measure of the force of gravity pulling on an object.
Volume
The amount of space matter takes up.
Physical Properties of Matter
Properties that can be measured or observed without matter changing to a different substance.

The two fundamental properties of matter are the fact that it takes up space and that it has mass which gives it inertia.
Density
How closely packed the particles of matter are. Density is calculated from the amount of mass in a given volume of matter, using the formula:

Density(D)= Mass(M) / Volume(V)
Reactivity
The ability of matter to combine chemically with other substances.
Flammability
The ability of matter to burn.
Chemical Properties of Matter
Properties of matter that can be measured or observed only when matter undergoes a change to become an entirely different substance.
Displacement Method
1. Add water to a measuring container. Record the volume.
2. Place the object in the water. Record the volume.
3. Subtract the first volume from the second volume. The difference represents the volume of the object.
What causes an object to weigh more on one planet (or moon) than another?
The gravitational pull on planets and moons differ from each other. Weight is a measure of the amount of gravitational pull on an object. If the amount of gravity changes, the weight also changes.

Mass is the amount of matter in an object. Moving from place to place does not change the amount of matter in an object. Mass is not changed due to location changes.

Particles are vibrating but it is undetectable to the human eye.
Describe the motion of particles in a liquid.
The particles more around more freely than in a solid. They are however confined to the limitation of the liquid itself.
Describe the motion of particles in a gas.
The particles in a gas move about freely and are not necessarily confined to a particular area.
What is the motion of particles at absolute zero?
Particles at absolute zero remain still.
