How is Lithium normally maintained in the RCS?

Lithium is naturally made in the RCS from the reaction of Neutrons and Boron.

What is the purpose of the decay coil?

-

Where is the delay coil located?

-

Why do other sample lines not have a decay coil?

The decay coil provides a 40 sec delay between the RCS loop and containment penetration which allows for the decay of N-16, which produces two high energy gammas.

-

Located in the sample line from the Loop B Th.

-

Decay coil is only from the Th sample line because it is directly off the active RCS loop, other sample lines should not have significant levels of N-16.

What sample line is RE-109 Failed Fuel Monitor located in?

-

When does RE-109 have flow through it?

RE-109 is monitoring the Loop B Th sample line.

-

There is always flow through RE-109, except after a CI.

Where can RHR liquid be sampled?

There is a local sample sink for RHR in PW#2 and 3 for local sampling. Also SC-959 RHR Sample valve at N-07 can be used to direct RHR through the normal Hot Leg Sample Line to the Sample Sink.

What is the effect of a high rad condition on MS-2083 and 2084 SGBD sample isolation valves?

-

Where are these valves controlled from?

-

Where are these valves physically located?

MS-2083 and 2084 will close on a high radiation signal from RE-219 SGBD Liquid Monitor.

-

Valves are controlled from the middle of the vertical section of C-01.

-

MS-2083 and 2084 are located in PW#1 and 4.

What is the cooling medium for the sample heat exchangers in the primary sample room?

-

Which sample sources have sample coolers?

CCW is the cooling medium for the sample heat exchangers, approx. 15 gpm each.

-

Samples that are cooled are:

- RCS B Th

- PZR Steam Space

- PZR Liquid Space

- 'A' and 'B' S/G Blowdown

Why is primary chemistry maintained?

Maintaining chemistry parameters in spec protects RCS piping from erosion and corrosion, controls the release of fission products to protect the health and safety of the public, and to control boron concentration for reactivity control and to maintain SDM.

What are the chemistry action levels and how are we to respond when entering an action level?

Action Level 1 - Chemistry is outside the normal range, need to return to normal in 7 days.

Action Level 2 - Significant damage could occur short term, prompt acion is required. Return to within action level 2 values in 24 hours or initiate action to S/D and C/D to <250F.

Action Level 3 - Chemistry values are at values beyond which continued operation is advisable. Orderly S/D immediately, and C/D to <250F as rapidly as possible.
