Involution
The reduction in the size of the uterus after delivery to prepregnant size
What causes involution
It is caused by uterine contractions that constrict and occlude underlying blood vessels at the placental site
Clients who breastfeed will experience what re involution
They will experience a more rapid involution b.c of the release of Oxytocin during breastfeeding
Pain and involution?
Client will feel cramping
Give Ibuprofen 600-800 mg and Percocet

Factors that slow involution - PAIR FOG
˗ Prolonged labor and difficult delivery
˗ Anesthesia

˗ Full urinary bladder: need to void 6-8 hrs postop or Foley/straight cath
˗ Overdistention of the uterus possibly due to multiples, fibroids
˗ Grand multiparity ie one baby after another
