* What is democracy?
A political system based on the formal political equality of all citizens.
It means that people have the final say and political equality.
It works based on majority rule.
It can be described as a balance between individualism and collectivism.
It is signifcant because it involes everyone and helps to show that the people matter. It helps give the majority what they want, so more people are happy. Unfortunately the people in the minority don't get what they want: democracy also helps show the differentials in power and who gets what because the minority does not get what they want.
* What is the Constitution Act?
The constitution is the mst important document. It establishes the fundamental rules and principles by which a state is governed.
It lays out the relationship between the people and the government.
It determines the institutions that have authority.
It outlines the rights and freedoms.
It does not guarantee that human rights will be respected, or that group rights will be protected.
Does not say full equal rights.
The constitution makes laws and implements them.
It does not always meet modern rights.

It is significant because it outlines the roles of the government and its people. It also makes the laws and implements them, also giving limit to the people. It is signifcant because it also shows the negative aspects to it: it does not guarantee that the rights of everyone are going to be respected.
* What is political culture?
The values, beliefs, and behaviours of a society's members in terms of politics.

It is significant because it describes what a culture is according to politics. It describes the society's values and beliefs in terms of their government, freedom, equality, democracy, civil duties, and mistrust of the government.
* What is federalism?
Federalism is a type of government system where power is divided between two or more levels of government.
Promotes loyalty.
Prevents tyranny.
Makes running the country easier.
Fosters pluralism.

It is significant because it allows for the country to be run easier because different levels look over different things. It helps divide the duties of a government and allows for greater control.
* What is political left?
Political left is focused more on social problems and social equality. It stands for people being equal, including economically.

It is significant because it counters political right and fights for the equality of its people and wants to reduce power differentials.
* What is conservatism?
A political group that believes in tradition and social order.
It believes that change is gradual.
It doesn't care about individual rights.
Believe in family values and continuity.
It is right wing.

It is significant because it opposes political left which is socialism. It believes in traditional values and appeals to those who feel the same way. It helps allow the people who do not believe in the left values to have something to believe in.
* What is notwithstanding clause?
A clause that allows a province to pass a law that violates the Charter.

It is significant because it allows governments to pass laws that they feel should be in place. It also shows that the Charter isn't perfect.
What are the three types of power?
Power is the ability to change people's behaviours. It is the ability to influence people's decisions. Power does not take into account how it affects the people. The three types of powers are influence, authority, and coercion, the latter being the most harsh.
Influence is a type of soft power. It's the power to influence people's decisions.
Authority is a type of soft power that is enforcing ways to make people act a certain way ex through laws.
Coercion is a type of hard power. It is power that uses 'legitimate violence'.
What is regionalism?
Regionalism is the differentials in equality between the regions of Canada. For example, most of the population is in Central Canada, so the majority of things that are passed are relevant to Central Canada. Western Canada feels left out.
