|
Defensive actions by one state actor are misconstrued by another state actor, leading to increased insecurity, instability, and greater potential for conflict. Relates to realism. One state could try to increase their security by adding weapons the other state could see it as a threat. (36 Mearshimer)

Anarchy
|
There is no central authority figure in a system. This plays out in the international system. Every state is looking out for their own self interest. Plays out in realism and liberalism. Fear of insecurity.

Democratic Peace Theory
|
Democracies are less likely to go to war with one another because they share common ideals. Liberal democracies have free trade and capitalism in their system. In case disputes happen, they favor negotiations they tend to align with eachother against non-democracies. Liberalism.

|
Mutually Assured Destruction- States try to build up their nuclear arsenals, but never use the weapons against eachother because they will be retaliated against in the same manner. This relates to security because it is used as a deterrence. Liberalism school of thought.

Golden Arches Theory
|
No two places that have a McDonalds go to war against each other. The countries are integrated economically. This shows that nations, with other nation that they have economic interests with.They could also risk losing the electronic herd. It is the capital that is invested in their country by corporations by McDonalds. Liberalism

The Core and the Periphery
|
Core- Western Europe, Japan, Germany, US. Periphery all of the rest. The Core holds all the power, while the periphery stands by and allows the core to hold power, and they try to imitate the core and they have no war aims except peace. This relates to national security because it shows the influence of the powerful states in the international system. Liberalism.
