Freshman year was one of the shortest years of my life thus far; time was running quick and it never seemed to slow down. I learned a lot, and matured very fast. On September 4th, I was a foolish student, an awful test-taker, and a young boy with a closed mind. I was completely unprepared by what high school would have in store for me.
.
I wasn’t at all prepared for what awaited me in high school. The workload and time management skills needed far exceed middle school. Before my freshman year, I had never studied for anything in my life, and never managed to receive a grade on my report card below a B. When I received my first quarter report card, I saw something which made my heart skip a beat. There was a C in the place of an A. I had just gotten my first C in my entire life. This whole ordeal was a wakeup call, and I decided to get myself together, and began to work harder, knowing that I was messing up what I hoped to be a bright future.
.
At the beginning of the year, I was an awful test-taker. This combined with my poor preparation spelled disaster. My poor sense of direction was combined with bad driving. Since I had never studied before, I really had to focus on efficient study techniques. I also used to get nervous for tests, forcing me to overthink answers. Over time, I developed my own study habits through trial and error. I learned to use flashcards in Spanish, and in English I discovered that there is not one study habit that works for me, but the nervousness seemed to fade away as I grew more comfortable with studying for assessments.
.
At the start of the year, I was a young boy with a closed mind. I was a misled teenager, no different than the rest. My mind developed to engaging in open thought and broad thinking through simple maturation. Mr. Glassman is my history and economics teacher, and both of his classes are very easy for me. He is a man of truth; he refuses to be fed propaganda and lies. He reads extreme amounts of history on the internet, and is therefore very historically educated. I engage in daily talks with him which consist of a variety of topics. They are very sensitive and relevant in our daily life, and constantly challenge our modern way of thought.
.
Now the year dwindles down to just a few weeks, and time is running out. Soon I will no longer be a freshman, and all these lessons I learned will be carried over to my sophomore year. At the beginning of my freshman year, I was an unprepared student, an awful test-taker, and a young boy with a closed mind. Now, I am prepared for my next year and have become wiser. I have developed proper study techniques. I found my way back onto the main road, and know my directions. I am better with managing my time, I don’t slack off any more, and I can think with an open mind. Now it’s time to take what I’ve learned this year, and apply it to next year so that I can bring my GPA up.
