What is Bian Bi?
Constipation: refers to the symptoms of difficulty in defecation with discharge of dry, impacted or hard stool. There may not be defecation for several days. Constipation is mainly caused by the disturbed function in transmitting waste of the large intestine and also related to the function of the spleen, stomach, Liver and kidney
What is Xie Xie?
Diarrhea refers to abnormal frequency bowel movement with loose stool, or even watery stool. It is usually due to disorders of the spleen, stomach, large and small intestines. It is divided into acute and chronic in clinic.
What is Fu Tong?
Abdominal pain is a common symptom in the clinic. It refers to pain in the abdomen. It is often accompanied with many zang-fu disorders.
What is Xin Ji?
Palpitation; refers to the unduly rapid action of the heart which is felt by the patient and accompanied by nervousness and restlessness. It includes “Jing Ji”, “Zheng Chong”.
1. Jing Ji is mild palpitation. Irregular heartbeat, more moderate, comes and goes as the causative factor is addressed by the body, it is often associated with e motional over work
2. Zheng Chong is severe palpitations, constantly getting them. Chest pain, dizziness, and insomnia. Must give regular treatment weekly and take herbs.
What is Dian Kuang?
Manic-depressive disorder is a mental disorder. Depressive disorder is manifested as reticence, dementia, incoherent speech, quietness, cry or laughing, while mania as shouting and restlessness, beating and scolding and violent behavior.

What is Shi Mian?
In Chinese Medicine, insomnia is called “Bu Mei”, “Mu Bu Ming”. It refers to a disorder in which patients can not have normal or enough sleep. Insomnia has different manifestations, difficulty in getting to sleep, easy to wake up and unable to sleep again after waking, early awakening, intermittent waking through the sleep, and even sleeplessness during the all night.
What is Yu Zheng?
Yu Zheng is a general term for melancholy resulted from emotional depression and stagnation of qi. A disorder of qi movement can lead to stagnation of blood, accumulation of phlegm, and many pathological changes will occur.
What Jian Wang?
Forgetfulness; Amnesia refers to a condition characterized by hypomensia and forgetfulness. Patients usually have difficulty in remembering thins, and do or say something without finish. It is also known as poor memory or lack of memory.
What is Tou Tong?
Headache. one of the most common symptoms in clinic. It is the feeling of the patients. Various acute and chronic diseases can induce it.
The headache can be divided into two types:
1. Headache due to external evils such as wind, cold, damp and heat [6 evils qi];
2. Headache due to internal disorders such as hyperactivity of liver yang, turbid-phlegm, deficiency and Blood stasis.
***Tou Tong = Simply Head Pain; Tou (Shou) Feng = Wind related

Manic Disorder - Excessive Fire Injures Yin
Treatment principle: Nourishing yin and descending fire, clear heart and calming the mind.

Manifestations: Prolonged manic-disorder becoming alleviated, excessive talking, fright, restlessness, emaciation; red tongue with less coating, Thready and rapid pulse
Yu Zheng - Depression of Qi in Liver
Treatment principle:Soothe the liver, relieving the depression

Manifestations: Mental depression, distress of the chest, hypochondriac pain, abdominal distension, belching, poor appetite, vomiting; white thin or greasy coating, wiry pulse
Transformation of the depressed qi into fire - Yu Zheng
Treatment principle:dispel the fire from liver, regulating stomach qi and relieving depression
Acupoint selection: CV13, TB6, GB34, LR3, GB43
Manifestations: Headache, dryness and bitter taste in the mouth, irritability, oppressed sensation in the chest, hypochondriac distension, acid regurgitation, constipation, red eyes, tinnitus; red tongue with yellow coating, wiry and rapid pulse.
Stagnation of Phlegm - Yu Zheng
Treatment principle:Regulating qi and resolve phlegm, soothe the liver and relieving the depression.
Acupoint selection: CV22, CV17, PC6, ST40, LR3
Manifestations: Mental depression, pressure sensation in the chest, feeling of a lump choking in the throat, hard to spit it out or to swallow it; greasy and white coating, wiry and slippery pulse.
Deficiency of Blood - Yu Zheng
Treatment principle:Nourish the blood, soothe the liver and tranquilize the mind.
Acupoint selection: CV14, HT7, SP6, LR3, ST36
Manifestations: Grief without reason, capricious joy and anger, fright, palpitation, irritability, insomnia, or sudden oppressed sensation in the chest, hiccup, sudden aphonia, convulsion, or loss of consciousness in severe case; thin and white tongue coating, thin and wiry pulse.

Tou Tong Due to Internal Causative Factors (Nei Shang Tou Tong - Hyperactivity of Liver yang (Gan yang Tou Tong)
Principle: Calm Liver, Lower Counterflow, Subdue Liver Yang, Relieve Pain
Patho Mechanism: Obstructed Heat can turn to Heat, Hurt the Yin (deficiency created) or emotional stagnates, creates heat then damaged yin fluids. Excitability can also cause the Yang Qi to ascend.
Manifestations: Distending pain, dizziness, possible red eyes, dry throat, irritable
Tongue: Yellow thin coat, red body
Pulse: Wiry Rapid
Points: GB4, 5, GB43, LR2, KI3 (tonify), DU20 [Reduce all but KI3]
Tou Tong Due To Internal Factors - Kidney Deficiency (Shen Xue Tou Tong)
Principle: Reinforce Kidney, Stop Pain
Manifestations: Dull Pain, empty feeling head, Chronic onset, intermittent pain, less severe likes pressure; Look for KD Qi XU [Fatigue, dizziness, vertigo/balance, lower back pain and weak knee joints]
Tongue: Depends on Qi [flabby, slightly pale, thin white coat] or Yin [red, no coat, cracks]
Pulse: Depends on Qi [Deep weak] or Yin [rapid thin] or Yin & Yang [thready weak]

What is Xuan Yun?
Dizziness; symptoms characterized by vertigo and blurred vision. Mild dizziness may be relieved instantly closing the eyes, while in severe cases the patients may feel body movement with a rotating sensation like sitting in a sailing boat or moving car that makes the patient unable to stand steadily. It may accompanied by nausea, vomiting or sweating
Hyperactivity of Yang - Xuan Yun
Principle: Calm Liver, subdue Liver Yang
Manifest: Dizzy, distending pain in head, tinnitus, red eyes, dry throat, flush face, irritable, bitter taste
Pulse: Wiry
Tongue: Red, thin yellow coat

Deficiency of Qi and Blood - Xuan Yun
Principle: Strengthen SP/ST, Reinforce blood and qi
Manifest: Worsened by overstrain, pale complexion, palpitation, insomnia, lusterless lips, nails, poor appetite, SOB, unwillingness to speak
Tongue: Pale, puffy
Pulse: Thready, weak

Obstruction of Phlegm & Damp - Xuan Yun
Principle: Resolve phlegm damp, invigorate Spleen
Manifest: Dizziness with heavy head, as if tightly bound, fullness of chest, nausea

What is Zhong Feng?
Wind Stroke - Sudden Onset, deviated mouth, rigid tongue, slurred speech, hemiplegia, LOC

Because of its sudden onset, emergency with various symptoms and wandering and changing nature of the wind, it is called wind stroke, or sudden attack (Cu Zhong).
*Zhong = attack, implies a quickness to the onset of symptoms. Symptoms may also change quick
According to the location of the diseases and the degree of severity, wind stroke can be classified as either an attack on the Zangfu organs or an attack on the meridians
How does Zhong Feng to Collaterals Present?
To Zang Fu?

Principle: Dredge Meridians Collaterals, regulate qi and blood
Manifest: Hemplegia, numb limbs, deviated mouth & slurred speech, h/a dizzy vertigo tinnitus, insomnia
Tongue: White or greasy, body depends; Wind Qi = Red, Fire = Dusky
Pulse: Slippery or Wiry

Zhong Feng of Zangfu: Bi Zheng (Tense Pattern)
Principle: Open Orifice, induce resuscitation, eliminate phlegm, clearing away heat
Manifest: Falling down in a fit, LOC, deviated mouth, hemiplegia, trismus &clenched fist, urine retention, constipation, flush face, rough breathing, rattling sound d/t sputum
Tongue: Red w/thick yellow coat

Zhong Feng of Zang Fu : Collapse Syndrome
Principle: Recuperating Depleted yang, restoring collapse
