Meter
the rhythm of a piece of poetry, measured by accentual rhythm, syllabic quantity, or the number of syllables in a line.
Personification
Giving human qualities to a non-human thing.
Alliteration
The occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of adjacent or closely connected words
Pantoum
A poem type with a series of quatrains, where the 2nd and 4th lines of the preceding stanza become the 1st and 3rd lines of the next.
Sestina
Six 6 line stanzas, last words reapeat in 615243 pattern. The last stanza is a tercet with words 1 & 3 in the first line, words 4 & 3 in the second and words 6 and 1 in the last.
Villanelle
19-line poem with 5 tercets and a final quatrain. 1st and third lines of first stanza repeat alternatingly as the final line of the tercets. Last quatrain has both of the repeating lines.
Couplet
Two lines of a verse, usually joined by rhyme, forming a unit.
