MATTER
Anything that has mass & takes up space.
MASS
The amount of matter that it contains.
WEIGHT
Measure of gravitational force exerted.
STATES OF MATTER
•Solids: have definite shape and volume because the molecules of which they are made occupy fixed positions & do not move freely.

•Liquids: have a definite volume but no definite shape because the molecules in a liquid are loosely bound & freely.

•Gases: have no definite shape or volume. The attraction between the molecules of a gas are very weak.

States of matter can be changed by adding or removing heat energy.
Melting Point
The temperature at which a solid become liquid.
Boiling Point
The temperature at which a liquid becomes a gas. Water boils at 202 *F.
Condensation Point
The temperature at which a gas becomes a liquid.
Freezing Point
The temperature at which a liquid becomes a solid. 32 *F.
Solution
A mixture that is uniform throughout & that contains ions , or molecules of two or more substances.
Solute
Substance in a solution that is dissolved. Ex. Salt
Solvent
Substance in which the solute is dissolved in.
Alloy
When 2 or more metals are combined.
Solutions can be liquid, gases, air.
Density
Amount of mass in a particular volume of a substance.
