What do plants take in?
Co2 + Water + light energy(sunligt)
What do plants produce?
O2 and Carbohydrates.
Whats the reaction for photosynthesis?
6CO2 + 12H2O + Light -> C6H12O + 6O2 + 6H2O
Where does photosynthesis take place?
In the chloroplast.
What happens in light reaction of photosynthesis?
Electron transport and photophosphorylation produce ATP and reduce NADP+ to NADPH + H+.
What is ATP and NADPH + H+ needed for?
To reduce CO2 in the Calvin-Benson Cycle, forming carbohydrates.
What two photosystems do noncyclic transport use?
Photosystem II and Photosystem I
What is photosystem II?
It uses P680 Chlorophyll from which light-exited electrons are passed to a redox chain that drives chemiosmotic ATP production.
Light driven oxidation of water releases o2 and passes electrons from water to the P680 Chlorophyll.
What is photosystem I?
It passes electrons from p700 chlorophyll to another redox chain and then to NADP+ forming NADPH + H+.
What does Photosystem two use and produce?
It uses light to oxidize water molecules producing electrons, H+ and O2.
What does P680 stand for?
For the maximum absorption of light which in this case is 680nm.
What does photosystem I reduce?
An oxidizen agent named ferredoxin(Fd) which in turn reduces NADP+ to NADPH + H+.
What does the Calbin-Benson cycle do?
It makes sugar from Co2.
How was it discovered?
Through the use of radioactive tracers.
What phases does the Calbin-Benson cycle consist of?
Fixation of Co2;
Reduction and carbohydrate production;
Regeneration of RuBP.
What is rubisco?
It's an enzyme that catalyze the reaction of Co2 and RuBP to form 3GP. It can also make O2 react but its less effective.
What is photorespiration?
It's the reaction between O2 and RuBP, which is Catalyzed by rubisco, reduces efficiency of photosynthesis.
What organelles are responsible for photorespiration?
Chloroplast;
Peroxisome;
Mitochondria.
What is favored at high temperatures?
Oxygenase (O2 + RuBP).
Which plant can bypass chemical respiration with special chemical reaction and specialized leaf anatomy?
C4 plant.
How is photosynthesis and respiration linked?
They're linked through Calbin-Benson cycle, citric acid cycle and glycolisys.
To survive a plant has to ____ more than it ______.
Photosynthesize more than it respires.
