PRISH




Pain, Redness, Immobility, Swelling, Heat

Red Man Syndrome

Tx with diphenhydramine (Benadryl)

NC:IV infusion over 60 min - Red man Syndrome if infused too quickly (first time).


Monitor renal function(BUN, creatinine) and Hearing


Avoid extravasation - necrosis


Monitor blood levels- therapeutic/toxicity


Through 30 min before infusion

Primary- prevention of initial infection


Traveling to an area of high infection risk, undergoing certain procedures


Secondary - prevention of recurrence (MRsS, VRE)
