-Acute epididymitis
-Syphilis
-HIV/AIDS
-Trichomoniasis
-Herpes simplex
-Bacterial vaginosis
-Condyloma acuminatum
-Proctitis
-Pediculosis pubis and scabies
Trichomoniasis:
-Symptoms are more common in women.
-An estimated 7.4 million new cases occur each year in women and men.
-Trichomoniasis is caused by the single-celled protozoan parasite, Trichomonas vaginalis.
-The vagina is the most common site of infection in women, and the urethra is the most common site of infection in men.
-Men may not have signs or symptoms; some men may temporarily have discharge, or slight burning after urination or ejaculation.
-Some women have signs or symptoms of infection which include a frothy, yellow-green vaginal discharge with a strong odor. The infection also may cause discomfort during intercourse and urination
Chlamydia trachomatis
[CAUSES]
[TREATMENT]
Most common bacterial STD in United States.
Causes:
--Genital tract infections
Proctitis
-Conjunctivitis
-Lymphogranuloma venereum
-Ophthalmia and pneumonia in infants

Treatment:
Azithromycin [Zithromax] 2000mg (4 tabs x 1 dose)
Doxycycline [Vibramycin]
Gonococcal Infections
[Symptoms]
[Treatment]
Neisseria gonorrhoeae
Symptoms:
-Urethral, cervical, and rectal infection
-Pharyngeal infection
-Conjunctivitis

Treatment:
-Azithromycin 2000mg (4 tabs x1 dose)
-Flouroquinolones
3rd and 4th generation cephalosporins
Trichomoniasis Treatment
Flagyl(metronidazole) 2000mg (4 tabs x1 dose)
MOA: Activity against most obligate anaerobic bacteria and protozoa. Activated by mechanisms unique to anaerobic metabolism.
-Activated metronidazole, is cytotoxic but short-lived, interacts with DNA to cause a loss of helical structure, strand breakage, and resultant inhibition of nucleic acid synthesis and cell death.

ADR:
-Disulfiram-like reaction
Abdominal discomfort (7%)
-Loss of appetite
-Metallic taste
-Nausea and vomiting (4%)
Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID)
Syndrome includes endometritis, pelvic peritonitis, tubo-ovarian abscess, and inflammation of the fallopian tubes.

Cause:
-Neisseria gonorrhoeae
-Chlamydia trachomatis

Treatment:
-Cefotetan
-Doxycycline
-Ofloxacin
-Metronidazole

MISC:
happens with noncompliant ppl or complex infection
especially seen in males
