What receptors does epinephrine activate? NoE? Dopa? Isoproterenol?
All, alphas and beta1, d>b1>a1, beta's
What do you use epinephrine for at low doses?
Bronchoconstriction in asthma, AV block, bradycardias
What do you use epinephrine for at high doses?
Anaphylactic shock, cardiac arrest, local anesthetics to prolong effect
What do you use Noe for ?
neurogenic shock, septic shock, support during spinal anesthesia
what do you use isporterenol for?
tilt-table test in dx vasovagal syncope
what do you use cocaine for?
inhibits uptake of ne and dopamine, use as local anesthetic, pain relief during nasogastric tube intubation
what do you use pseudophrine and ephedrin for?
stimulate release of ne from pre-syn nerves and stimulate adrenergic receptors. use to tx congestion (sudafed)
what do you phenylephrine for?
selective at alpha1, constriction so use as nasal decongestant, hemorrhoids, mydriasis, spinal anesthesia blood support.
where do you use midodrine?
alpha1, orthostatic hypotension, urinary incontinence. better absorption than phenylephrine. (middle and urine)
where do you use dobutamine?
b1 selective. a1 agonist and antagonist. use for chf. cardiac stress testing
what are the beta2 selective drugs?
albuterol, salmeterol, terbutaline (ter). 2=lungs, use for asthma, copd. salmeterol, long lasting. terbutaline for uterine relaxation.
what are the nonselective alpha blockers?
phen -- phenoxybenzamine and phentolamine. use for pheochromocytoma, preop stab and dx for pheochromocytoma
what are the drugs selective for alpha1 blockers?
osins - prazosin, droxazosin, terazosin for bph. "sin" to pee. tamsulosin - alpha1a in bladder, prostate, but also ejaculation bc in vas deferens (tam's so hot). alfuzosin - bph also, accumulates in protatic tissue
what are the beta blockers?
BEAM before M is beta1. "olol's" timelol for glaucoma, good bc not membrane stabilizing at high doses
