Certification
A non-governmental agency grants recognition to an individual who has met certain predetermined qualifications specified by that agency.
The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board and the Institute for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians grant certification to technicians who pass their voluntary certification examination.
Certified Pharmacy Technicians (CPhT) are then required to complete 20 hours of continuing education every two years to maintain their certified status.
Licensure
The process by which a government agency grants permission to an individual engaged in a given occupation (example: pharmacist) upon finding that the applicant has attained the minimal degree of competency necessary to ensure that the public health, safety, and welfare will be reasonably well protected. This process is defined as licensure.
Registration
Registration is the process of making a list or being enrolled in an existing list.
