intro
Smoking kills. On average, 400,000 people die each year from smoking illnesses and diseases, and 4,000 newborn babies die each year because the mother of the child didn’t quit smoking while being pregnant, (http://rex.nci.nih.gov/NCI_Pub_Interface/Smoking_Facts/about.html). All of these deaths are caused by something that doesn’t give smokers any in benefit, so why take the chance? Smoking is bad for people because of the affect it has on their physical health, its affect other people their in community, and because it causes multiple kinds of cancer.

Smoking affects people’s physical health a lot. Smoking mainly affects people’s gums and teeth. People who smoke daily lose their teeth, have gum problems, and have major plaque. Studies have shown that many dental problems are caused by smoking, (http://www.stop-smoking-tips.com/effects-smoking-teeth.html). Although smokers may think that it can help them lose weight, really it makes people have a smaller appetite. Instead people can just go on a diet because it is healthier for their body and doesn’t affect their health. Smoking not only affects smoker’s physical health but also affects other people around them.
body paragrpah #2
Second hand smoke, smoke unintentionally inhaled by people who don’t smoke, can kill the people smokers care about. According to the American Cancer Society second hand smoke kills 38,000 to 65,000 people a year that have never even smoked! By inhaling cigarette smoke people get 4,700 chemicals, 50 cancer-causing agents, and 200 poisonings, (http://www.co.chippewa.wi.us/CCDPH/CVTFC/secondhand.htm). Smoking around people that they care about is almost like poisoning them
Around 95% of lung cancer is caused because of smoking. Men who smoke increase their chance in death by lung cancer more than 22 times, (http://www.smokingaloud.com/death.html). Why take the chance of dying, when there are many alternatives to smoking? Some of the alternative can be chewing gum or sunflower seeds. These are both effective and aren’t bad for anybody. Smoking affects people’s body in many bad ways and is unhealthy and therefore smoking is very bad.
