What is the histologic characteristic of ALK + lymphoma?

Large anaplastic cells, some containing horseshoe-shaped nuclei and voluminous cytoplasm, so called hallmark cells.


The tumor cells cluster about venules and infiltrate lymphoid sinuses.

Why is the detection of ALK protein in tumor cells is a reliable indicator of an ALK gene rearrangements?

Because it is not expressed in normal lymphocytes.
