Percent
A percent is a ratio that describes a part of 100. So, 50 percent, written 50% means 50 per hundred.
To compare ratios
write each ratio with a denominator of 100. Then compare the percents.
To find the percent increase or decrease
find the amount of change by subtracting the new value and the original value. Then write a proportion and solve.
Percent change
Percent change describes the size of the change. If the new amount is larger, it is a percent increase. If the new amount is smaller, it is a percent decrease. A percent change is always base on the original amount.
