Causes of severe elevation of AST and ALT

Severe viral hepatitis, drug or toxin induced hepatic necrosis, circulatory shock

Acute hepatitis, neonatal hepatitis, chronic hepatitis, autoimmune hepatitis, drug induced hepatitis, alcoholic hepatitis, and acute biliary tract obstructions.
