acute pain
Pain of sudden onset that is usually self-limited and localized; it lasts for less that 6 months and has an identifiable cause, such as trauma, surgery, or inflammation.
addiction
A primary, chronic neurobiology disease characterized by compulsive use of a substance despite negative consequences, such as health threats or legal problems.
analgesic
A medication that reduces or eliminates the perception of pain.
breakthrough pain
