1. They were Judaizers (trying to create good Jews to follow Christ-follow the law-circumcision)/discredit Paul's authority


2. They were his opponents because they were also discrediting his authority, saying that since he was not from the Jerusalem church he was not an apostle. He doesn't have authority. Paul responds by saying that his calling is from Christ is for the gentiles not for the Jews.

1. People were listening to false teachings in the church.


2. They were Judaizers (trying to create good Jews to follow Christ-follow the law)/discredit Paul's authority.


3. Paul recognizes that Freedom is hard, but we have the freedom to make the right choices. It's not an abandonment of the law, but it's living in Christ's law.

Reasons: Paul is making sure that they know of his credibility of apostleship, and then he also talks about the ministry of reconciliation in the church.

Why did Paul write 1 Thessalonians? When did he write it?

1. The church was founded in a matter of weeks, but Paul is forced to leave thessalonica, and he knows that the church is young and facing persecution, so Paul writes to encourage them, inform them about the end times. Paul is happy that they are doing so well.

Why did Paul write 2 Thessalonians? When did he write it?

Paul is writing to address circumstances within the church.


1. Outside Persecution: Paul rmidns them that those who harm them will be punished, there will be judgment, honor and shame mentality


2. There's a letter saying the day of the Lord has already come. Paul says it hasn't happened, and gives them things that will happen before the end of the day, so stand firm.


3. Idleness, not following orders, you are putting people in danger, you are becoming busibodies. Paul says that they should follow his example, and work for their own living.
